Could you say a few words about the group to which you belong, and in particular about how it functions?

…no group of the NLS is an island…

“No man is an island” writes a poet dear to Lacan. No group of the NLS is an island. Even though ICLO is located in one, the confines of its work are not its borders, but the articulation of each of its members’ link to the analytic cause in the “re-conquering of the Freudian field.” ICLO carries out this work, following Lacan’s teaching and its orientation by J.-A. Miller, through a functioning that includes the fundamental dysfunctioning that affects speaking-beings, that is, the real of their symptom.

…all students and readers of Lacan in English…

At the side of the London Society, an affiliated society of the NLS, Jacques-Alain Miller created the London Workshop of the Freudian Field in July 2022. The London Workshop offers a systematic programme – which is also available online – of seven theoretical and clinical seminars delivered by psychoanalysts of the WAP, in order to help local and international participants engage with psychoanalysis and the Lacanian orientation. As an institution of the Freudian Field, it takes the shape of a “permanent training course” and welcomes all students and readers of Lacan in English, who are interested in the clinical praxis he established. Its inaugural programme focused on classical psychiatry while its second year, was dedicated to an introduction to Freud, which has also been an essential return to Freud, inasmuch as his work was warped by the post-Freudians.

…a formation in the Lacanian Orientation…

Speaking for myself, I would say that ICLO was born out of the desire to create a space for a continuous formation which is a desire related to the local context in which a “training” is provided by various university courses. To be validated, these courses were forced to pander to externally set criteria. My desire, as a member of ICLO, is oriented by being part of a School that transcends these strictures and thus a function of the group concerns a passageway out of a closed space to the open space of a formation in the Lacanian Orientation.

…. a strong transference to work…

To say a few words to the group to which I belong. The group to which I belong, ICLO-NLS, is a small group of 22 of which 8 are members of the NLS. It is a vibrant and active group. The subjective desire of the group was expressed and demonstrated with a strong transference to work in the preparation and during the recent NLS Congress in Dublin.

…almost half of them members also of the NLS…

This coming year we are celebrating 40 years of the “Freudian movement”, that which became the Giep and then Giep-NLS: The Israeli society for psychoanalysis of the New Lacanian School. We are 68 members, almost half of them members also of the NLS, and of the WAP.

In the last years we have our own premises, with a library, where we meet on a regular basisfor seminars, cartel events, conversations around the formation of psychoanalysts, clinical work, etc. Each year there is an emphasis on the theme of the School’s congress.

In the wider field, there is the ongoing work of two clinical sections and clinical institutions oriented by the C.P.C.T., which are connected to the work done in the Giep.

To speak today about our work in the Giep cannot but be connected to this time of war, a very shaky period, with a lot of loss all over our region, with disbelief in that which governs. And with insecurity in the deepest core of our existence. How is each one involved in this situation, how are our analysis and practice touched?

We are still in the midst of it, making an effort to circumscribe the hole; we aredoing clinicaland theoretical work around trauma. Participating in the NLS congress, made it urgent to share, and enabled some air.

…Lacanian compass functions as a compass for anyone interested…

As the name suggests, le Lacanian Compass functions as a compass for anyone interested in the clinic and teachings of Jacques Lacan and Jacques-Alain Miller. LC supports formation by offering open and closed activities that link diverse individuals across the country. It is constantly promoting the formation of cartels and participation in activities of the WAP and NLS. Most importantly, Lacanian Compass hosts the Clinical Study Days – the only conference focused on the Lacanian clinic in the US.

Maurien Caron,

Member of the NLS and of Lacanian Compass

…group’s activities and publications emphasize clinical practice in the Lacanian orientation…

Lacanian Compass is composed of members and non-member colleagues working together across a wide geographic expanse, in many different cities and states. The group’s activities and publications emphasize clinical practice in the Lacanian orientation. Essential to these endeavors are the forums in which members discuss, debate, and invent Lacanian psychoanalysis today in the varied cultural landscape of the US, in order to facilitate transference to the orientation through transmission and exposing our clinical work, one by one. Lacanian Compass, with its links to the NLS and WAP, functions to support the formation of analysts.

…serious exchange founding transferences…

ICLO-NLS is a crucial locus of the transmission of the Lacanian orientation in Ireland through its theoretical and teaching seminars, cartel work and local events. The links forged with the School make possible a fruitful and serious exchange founding transferences that have formative effects. Avenues to reach “new blood” always need work but are now formalised with the Newcomers initiative.

Member of the NLS and ICLO-NLS

…Each one puts something of themselves into it in their own way…

For me, the Hellenic Society of the NLS rhymes with transference, work, transmission. [transfert, travail, transmission]. But also with knowledge, symptom, solution [savoir, symptôme, solution].

It is place of exchange, of belonging, open to the city, where the desire of determined workers, of the ill-assorted oddments that we are, is oriented towards the study, practice and dissemination of Lacanian psychoanalysis. Each one puts something of themselves into it in their own way, without giving up in the face of the impasses of civilisation.

For me, the Hellenic Society is the School.

Eleni Koukouli,

Member of the NLS and of the Hellenic Society of the NLS

…. the group almost had to start over …

The Ukraine Initiative was born out of the activities of the Freudian Field-Ukraine Group which, with the support of the Freudian Field Foundation and of the NLS, organized seminars, publications, and other activities related to the School. The group has experienced many upheavals and had to almost start from scratch. However, despite this resistance to the School with a good alibi of the real, the transference is stable, and we continue.

The conversations take into account the reality of addiction in Switzerland…

Conversations take into account the reality of addiction in Switzerland, which is characterized by avery different policy and vision compared to other European and American countries. For example, the policy of harm reduction for drug users is part of hosting facilities with low-risk consumption rooms in major cities such as Geneva and Lausanne. In addition, heroin prescription treatment has been part of the care provided for over 30 years. In terms of treatment, therapies involving the prescription of hallucinogens have been authorized since 2022 in outpatient clinics and offices, under certain conditions and for specific indications. The sale of cannabis is authorized in Swiss cities as part of a consumer follow-up study. Cannabis is the most widely used illegal substance in Switzerland. This situation has contributed to new approaches to regulating the way cannabis is used in society today.

The Cann-L project in Lausanne and the "cannabinothèque" project in Geneva, open since 2023, are part of a series of projects developed by major Swiss cities (Zurich, Basel, Bern) to study the impact of different models for regulating the sale of cannabis on users' consumption, health and public safety, including the black market. A “cannabinothèque”; opened in Geneva in 2023. It enables a cohort of a thousand subjects to be legally supplied with cannabis, produced in Switzerland and under supervision, with follow-up to assess the impact of this consumption on their health. The aim of the project is to assess the feasibility and impact of a model for regulating cannabis through non-profit sales.
