Two questions: How to get to the youths to demand the entrance to the School. How to make the entrance of Oscar Masotta Institute (IOM) in the School.

1 - A decisive and auspicious policy... 2 - We must allow ourselves to be questioned by young people... 3 - Transmitting in act a desire for the school...

1 – A decisive and auspicious policy...

Ricardo Seldes*

Well, I was especially interested in the aggiornamento with respect to the New Youth Policy, not only to promote a new desire in young people, but also to let them know that the doors of the WAP and the EOL are open for them to have a new experience. Achieving a proactive and voluntarist entry for the young people resonated with me because it makes me think that, precisely, it is about producing a certain haste in what can usually have a more bureaucratic function of waiting, of inertia. We’ve understood that this truly is a decided and auspicious policy, which has raised very interesting questions, for example, the question of what it means to look for the most serious and responsible young people. This allowed us to think that in addition to what it would imply, let’s say, what it is necessary, which is that they are under 35 years old, this is not enough because we also need people who are in analysis, who are in supervision. What Manuel was able to grasp were the enunciations beyond the statements. We have come to the conclusion that to say the “most serious” and the “most responsible” does not only mean those who are noticeable, who have a desire for psychoanalysis, but who also have a desire to be trained at the EOL. Exactly.

It was very important an evening organised by the EOL council dedicated to the Youth Policy. It was a closed night because we wanted to talk with the members about this whole new movement. But already that first night produced an effect in which young people began to approach and ask for admission and then we had a second night, this time an open night with the whole Council, introducing themselves and talking to the School.

With the lOM there was also a bit of surprise at first and then a lot of enthusiasm. The EOL has four sections: Santa Fe, Rosario, Córdoba and La Plata and a delegation which is Mendoza. This year the delegation from Uruguay joined and from this movement the idea is that the Oscar Massota Institute gets to be in the places in Argentina where there are no Sections. So, it is an intermediate work between the institute and the School. We started this year with the provinces of Salta and Bariloche, which were two places of the IOM that were quite developed and had been working for many years, so they became a delegation. Then I conducted thousands of interviews with people from Bariloche Uruguay for admissions, in order to get the homologations done in February. I organized a meeting by Zoom with all the members of each of the places that are going to become a delegation, trying to listen to them to lower their anxieties a little and to clarify things. One last little thing, the places that are not so developed are not going to become a delegation, but they are going to become what is called Antenna, which is also a form of School, but a little smaller than what would be a delegation, that is to say that the School, through its statutory Council, is responsible for this change and for what is going to happen in each of the new instances produced.

2 – We must allow ourselves to be questioned by young people…

Andrea Zelaya*

Well, perhaps one could think that these two questions can be articulated. Basically, in relation to the IOM, the inclusion in the School was promoted by Jacques-Alain Miller and the president of the WAP, Christiane Alberti, where the need was created to be able to incorporate into the School what was the Oscar Masotta Institute. The idea is that the School can dispense its formation as an analysand experience of the School in the places where the delegations were ready at that moment or at this point of arrival. It is a relationship between the aggiornamento of those places, but also on the part of the School to allow itself to be updated [aggiornar] by the newness of the delegation, to allow itself to decomplete the institutional part at stake in order to open up to the dimension of what is known as the School experience insofar as the central question is: What is an analyst?

So, from there we can think that the inclusion of young people is an opening, in the sense of giving way to young people so that they can question themselves about the experience of psychoanalysis in the world and question themselves about the function of the School, the desire for the School and how important it is in their lives and in the life of psychoanalysis. There is a relationship between the young people in the School, the IOM and the aggiornamento. They are like three movements to rejuvenate and rethink the practice of psychoanalysis in order to rethink and renew the statutes, the devices. We must allow ourselves to be questioned by the young people. In the new modality of suspensive condition, the conditional member is oriented by an AMS mentor from the School and the WAP and at this point it is possible that the AMS and the School itself also allow themselves to be questioned by the questions of these young persons. It is like a Moebian movement.

3 – Transmitting in act a desire for the school…

Gabriela Camaly*

It is a strong bet towards the young people, but also to the school itself. I believe that the problem is not so much how to attract young people, how to generate in them a desire for the School, but how to maintain that desire. In the EOL, as in all the other Schools, its members have aged, we have aged. Those of us who were young are no longer young.

The EOL is a School that has historically generated transferences in an open, plural way, in different spaces such as the university, hospitals, etc., and there are clinical institutes, master’s degrees, and a question we have been asking ourselves for a long time is: What to do with those transferences, how to accommodate those transferences, how to generate a desire of formation in the School? I think that now the question is that we have received many requests for admission to the School in a short time, under this new format of conditional membership, but the wager is also to transmit in act a desire for the School so that they do not leave, so that they have a desire of formation.
